Upshur Bren Psychology Group has several providers who specialize in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a parent-based treatment modality for childhood anxiety and OCD.
If you are a parent of a child who struggles with anxiety, you probably feel compelled to do all you can to make that anxiety go away. As a result, you may end up making accommodations to help your child avoid feeling anxious. While these accommodations can help to calm them down in the moment, they can inadvertently lead to increased dependence on you for managing their anxious feelings.
With SPACE, parents learn how to respond to their child's anxiety in a way that increases their child’s ability to effectively cope with anxiety in the moment and long term, without depending on their parents to take the anxiety away
