Maggie Peebles-Dorin is a Clinical Psychologist and Postdoctoral Fellow with Upshur Bren Psychology Group who completed her PhD at Adelphi University with a focus on psychodynamic therapy. Maggie works with children, adolescents and adults of all ages. She sees clients for a variety of concerns including but not limited to anxiety, life transitions, grief and ambiguous loss, relationship and family conflict, supporting adults processing childhood trauma, and individuals exploring gender identity and expression. Maggie is particularly passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, as well as adopted families. She approaches therapy from a psychodynamic and attachment lens, and is also trained in aspects of Child-Parent Psychotherapy, CBT and DBT.
Maggie works to create a safe and judgment-free space for clients to reflect on past experiences and gain insights into themselves and their relationships. She loves to incorporate play in therapy with children as well as her adult clients, helping patients to feel comfortable utilizing the fun and mess of play to create new, healing interactions and relationships. When working with children and their families, she aims to foster a sense of creativity and optimism while navigating the challenges that come with parenting. Maggie loves working with neurodivergent individuals and their families. She is also trained in adapting psychotherapy for autistic clients and clients with intellectual disabilities.
Prior to her PhD, Maggie earned her BA in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art from Smith College.
With this knowledge, parents are able to develop their own personal parenting frameworks so they can respond confidently and effectively to any challenge that comes along, resulting in families that are healthier, calmer, and more connected with one another.
