Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) is an evidence-based treatment for children and teens with anxiety, OCD, and related problems developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. With this approach, we focus on the family system rather than exclusively on the child’s behaviors by helping parents learn how to best respond to and support their anxious child.
When a child is anxious, parents often feel pulled to rescue their child from their distress. However, this can inadvertently serve to maintain or even amplify a child’s anxiety in the long term, which often leaves parents feeling helpless, frustrated, and confounded. In SPACE, we help parents map out and systematically modify these ‘accommodating’ behaviors in a warm and attuned way, leading to a reduction in anxiety symptoms and less stress on the family system.
Join this 30-minute virtual webinar with Psychotherapist Kate Gallagher and Clinician Mirielle Ranade to learn more about the SPACE methodology and if this treatment approach could be a good fit for you and your family.
