Pregnant, postpartum and busy parents who want the convenience of getting care from home
Working individuals who can schedule sessions during lunch breaks or between meetings
Adults outside NY & CT seeking personalized support for parenting, relationships, or growth
Neurodiverse individuals who benefit from familiar environments and reduced sensory input
Divorced or separated parents who may need to attend sessions from different locations
Research shows that online support can be just as beneficial for many mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress management, parenting challenges, and relationship issues. In fact, some clients (and even therapists!) find that online sessions make it easier to open up, stay consistent, and integrate therapy into their busy lives.
All of our skilled clinicians are trained to provide thoughtful, engaging, and effective support in a virtual format. Through secure video sessions, they help you develop coping strategies, process emotions, and work toward your goals—just as they would in person. Plus, the flexibility of meeting from the comfort of your own home removes barriers like travel time and scheduling conflicts, making it easier to prioritize your mental health.
While telehealth and virtual coaching can be an ideal fit for many adults and teens, we generally do not conduct online sessions for children under 9. With that said, we always look at each child individually. Some children and teens do wonderfully in an online format, especially when they are more verbal, able to stay engaged, and feel comfortable connecting through a screen.
For others, in-person care is a better fit, particularly when attention, regulation, or the need for hands-on support makes virtual sessions feel too difficult or distracting.
Our intake process is designed to help determine what will work best for your child.
We start with a free consult call.
You’ll speak with a member of our care team who will take the time to understand what you’re looking for, answer your questions, and recommend the best next step for you or your child. From there, we thoughtfully match you with the clinician who best fits your needs, goals, and preferences.

For adults:
Your first appointment is an intake session. This is a chance to share what brings you in, what you’ve been noticing, and what you hope will feel different. Your clinician will ask thoughtful questions to understand your history, current concerns, and goals, so care feels personalized from day one.
For children:
We begin with an intake session for parents or caregivers first. This gives you space to share your concerns, your child’s history, and what you’re seeing at home and at school. From there, your child’s clinician will begin meeting with your child in individual sessions in a way that feels supportive, age-appropriate, and tailored to their needs.

What if I don’t feel a connection with my therapist?
How do I know if virtual therapy is the right choice for me?
Many clients are surprised to find that virtual therapy can feel just as personal and connected as meeting in person. A strong therapeutic relationship is built on trust, attunement, and understanding, not physical location. And for some, meeting from the comfort of home or another safe space actually makes it easier to open up. Teletherapy allows you to engage in sessions in a familiar environment, which can foster a greater sense of safety and ease. With consistent care and a strong therapeutic fit, virtual therapy can offer the same depth of connection and effectiveness as in-person work.

Research shows that teletherapy works just as well as in-person therapy.
Studies comparing traditional face-to-face therapy with video-based therapy find that people experience similar levels of symptom improvement and satisfaction with care when working with a therapist online. In areas like anxiety, depression, trauma treatment, and other emotional or behavioral concerns, video therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-person sessions.
While individual experience can vary based on personal preference, treatment type, and comfort with technology, the research supports that virtual therapy is an effective, evidence-supported option and one that many people find comfortable, accessible, and personally meaningful.

Virtual therapy can be a great option for many older children and teens, generally those around age 12 and up, who are able to focus, engage in conversation, and build a therapeutic relationship over a screen.
For younger children, we typically recommend in-person therapy. Developmentally, younger kids benefit from hands-on interaction, play-based work, and face-to-face connection, which are best supported in an in-person setting. Our team is happy to talk with you about your child’s age, needs, and preferences to help determine the most supportive option for your family.

Technology issues happen from time to time, and we’re prepared for that. If something comes up during your session, your therapist will work with you to troubleshoot or help transition to an alternate plan so your time together is not lost.
Our concierge team is also available to support you with any questions about the virtual platform before or after your session. We aim to make virtual therapy feel as smooth, accessible, and stress-free as possible.

Many insurance plans do cover virtual therapy, just as they cover in-person sessions. Upshur Bren Psychology Group is an out-of-network practice, which means we do not bill insurance companies directly for virtual or in-person care.
That said, many plans offer out-of-network benefits that may reimburse a portion of your therapy costs, including video-based sessions. You can learn more about our fee structure on our Fees Page, and our team is always happy to help you check your benefits, understand your coverage, and review any out-of-pocket costs before you get started.

Our care team works thoughtfully to match each client with a therapist who aligns with their needs, goals, and preferences. That said, therapy is a personal experience, and sometimes a connection may not feel quite right.
If this happens, we’re happy to help. You can reach out to our care team, and we’ll work with you to reassign you to another clinician within our practice so you feel supported and comfortable in your care.
